Hei!!

  • In March of 1997, my best friend Lindsé and I travelled to Norway to visit a friend and see a fjord. Well, we saw lots of fjords. Mostly from the airplane, but fjords nonetheless.
  • We also managed to keep from seriously injuring ourselves on icy Norwegian mountainslopes (surf Ulriken!)and not to get deported despite our misbehaviour. Lindsé even learned some very helpful Norwegian phrases. I, of course, lost my passport.
  • On the whole, I learned a lot, and was very pleased to discover that Norway is truly an incredible country. The people are very kind (even the trolls are rather pleasant), the scenery is awestriking, and the beer is awful.
  • I think our misadventure on the mountain occurred from Lindsé's haphazard prayers to Ull, the old Norse God of Skiing. Or maybe I am mistaken, and she was praying to Ĝl, the current Norse God of Inebriation. That would make sense, considering Linds rolled down most of the mountain rather than hiking down it like normal people. She tried to take me with her on her kamikaze mission down the mountainside, darn her.
  • Of course, we didn't just play suicide games with mountains. We also went to the movies.
  • All the movies in Norway have subtitles, I've discovered. Even the ones in which the actors are speaking Norwegian. Subtitles are helpful for learning a language though, and by watching Clueless with norsk subtitles, Linds managed to translate her favourite English slang terms into something Norwegians can understand.
