birthdays and comics

September 22, 2003

I birthdayed over to the twins’ house last night. They seemed fairly nonplussed with their handmade, handpainted cards, and I can’t blame them. I took three days to make them and still ended up finishing them hastily at the very last second before my ride arrived. One day, I will get my production skillz down.

Today is comics day. I’ve already had the mailman surprise me with TWO packages, and so I know it’s going to be a good day. Once I’ve finished my coloring for the week, I will force myself to pick up the house and then begin my latest crusade – Illustrator.

I started using Photoshop in version 3.0. I’ve owned Illustrator for two and a half years now, and I am only just now “clicking” with it in terms of being able to make things look how I want. Right now I’m at the stage where my stuff looks a lot like the established styles of five or six other illustrators I know. Once I get to the point where I’m scanning in my own sketches and tracing them, I’ll probably be able to hone it to my satisfaction. So if anyone can point me in the direction of a good tutorial on using textures and brushes in Illustrator, I will be a happy girl. What I’ve found so far has been useful, but has left gaps in my knowledge.

this week’s to-do:

this week’s strip for coloring (coolest 2nd job ever)
housecleaning, as always
finish the humumizer (so excited! so close to done!)
work on library of textures and objects for Illustrator
setup InDesign with PT Layouts
box model layout for Utopian.net
cafe wall art
cafe stamps
Utopian.net cover

My weekend was good. How was yours? More birthdaying this week with J.’s on Thurs. Got stuff to make for that too.
