The problem with going to bed before 2am is that if I wake up any time after 5am I am irrevocably awake.
This is a new development in The Life of Brianna, a girl who has been known to crash out for fifteen hours straight for no good reason at all. This ties in with my previous thoughts about getting old.

So at 5:30 this morning when someone called my house, I lay in bed for ten or fifteen minutes after to really truly confirm I was awake. Once I had it all figured out, I jumped on the computer.

I do my best work early in the morning. I hate admitting it, but it’s true. If I start working at 6am, I usually have more done by 9am than if I tried working all night starting at noon.

So all morning I’ve been researching, laying out, moving resources around, and finally I settled down to editing someone else’s code while I sipped some of that sweet Lady Grey. In the middle of it, when the music started lilting into Kings of Convenience and the SQL queries did their magic and pages came together, a little voice in my head broke the stillness and said “Ah. This is what I’m supposed to be doing.”

One of those rare moments when you’re neither moving forward nor backward, simply doing what you’re meant to be doing right at that second. I love those. They come less frequently than they used to. Now I write journal entries about the phenomenon to try and hold on to those moments.
